PAGE EIGHTY. Interior. Damien Kessler’s suite at the Cydonian Towers, Amazonis Prime.
The battle continues this week, with our heroine gaining the upper hand, if only briefly, after Shade Endgame was distracted by the security klaxon. Unfortunately for VG, being on the offense was short-lived. More unfortunate for Vikki, however, is the fact that Shade is not human (explains how she dealt with some hard-ass bastards so completely, eh?). Now, I won’t get into the details here as we, quite frankly, hope to tell Shade’s story at some point in great detail. Suffice it to say, while she’s not human, she’s not exactly inhuman either. I’ll leave it at that.
That’s partly why I’m choosing The Animals’ version of ‘Please Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.’ Though I also love the Santa Esmerelda version, which you might remember from a certain movie involving a pissed-off bride (warning- this version is long- like 10 minutes long).
Finally, Nic and I went back and forth on how to convey the strobe effect. I think it ended up looking great, with Nic finally deciding on the blue wash-out to counterpoint the red I love.
Until next week. Hard to believe there are less than 20 pages left (at least, in book one).
Dave

Woo hoo! 80 pages y’all. It’s like a birthday or something.
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and posit that Cyberdyne is part of the Combine.
Ian Holm’s character in Alien actually came to mind first when I saw she was a robot. Fun stuff.
Sweet page!
I’m confused. Is her guitar is made of some kind of glass ? I always thought it was holographic.
I would call it more of a force field than a hologram. A focused energy field, if you will. “Substantial” enough to hold/manipulate. Nic might have more to say on the design side.
Whoa huge twist wsnt expecting her to be a bot thats kinda awesome tho if i had a chance of hooking up with her with out getting killed i might do it
Is there anyone that isn’t a robot that works for the bad guys?
@Brian- Ian Holm’s Ash is definitely an inspiration here. When I first saw
A L I E N, I think the scene where he goes berserk scared me more than anything else in that film, which is saying a lot.
@wetcorps – As Dave stated, when I first designed the holo-guitar, I thought of it as an extremely versatile instrument. My idea was that the instrument, without having strings, would be able to interpret and synthesise the user’s finger positions, creating unique tones and notes mixing the classic notes and the user’s inventions. The holo-neck of the guitar is indeed more of a projected forcefield, being solid enough to play it and manipulate. A sort of ‘light saber’ quality, if you will. If you turn it off (for carrying), you’d just have to transport the body of the guitar.
Hope that clarifies a bit!
Nic.-
so Nick what your saying is holo instruments are Improved versions of the theremin of today as theremins use the location, angel and elevation of the uses hands in its eletrical fields to create the tones that are heard thats kinda cool man so really tthe only think preventing from us from becomeing holo rock gods is oh inablity to prodice a semi transparnt hologram that is able to become very hard upon contact , to make this thing a reality now we’d need a very durable see through platic with fiber optic threads running the length of the neck, well until we are able to crates a holo projector the is able to pro duce soild objects, any who was fun thinking up wayto to make your tech come to life Nik
Thanks for the details guys.
