Live from C2E2! I’ll post more later, but this is a great show already. Great venue.
Musical pairing- has to be Elastica, ‘Waking Up.’

Real quick, we were talking the other night about who would play our band members in the movie. The strangest, yet kinda intriguing suggestion was Miley Cyrus as Vikki Grimm. What do you ladies and gentlemen think?

Oh my! *alarms sound and generic british female voice comes over the loud speaker* “nipple slip imminent extreme embarassment protocols activating in thirty seconds…..”
I was sure it wasnt Kessler… as to miss Cyrus as Vikki yeah she seems an almost prefect match from my point of view for personality and in looks give Miley epic rocker hair and bam so i vote yes to that one
Actually, that’s an ineresting choice. I never would’ve thought of Miley Cyrus as Vikki. If it is of any interest, as the artis of the comic, I based Vikki on Emily Browning, which (as time goes by) looks more and more like our martian heroine
A pic herre: http://www.masalladeorion.es/wp-content/uploads/EmilyBrowning.jpg
HAHA! I was RIGHT!
Given my absolute disdain for Miley Cyrus (to [put it mildly) I’d say no. The idea of a live action Free Mars! is awesome though, no question. Just no one comes to mind at the moment that would suit Vikki. If I think of anyone I’ll post it up later.
I find it funny that Kessler’s black eye was Sam’s way of saying “thanks” for him using their song…
Ah, Kessler. Good to see the most interesting character in the comic again. Here’s to hoping he doesn’t fall prey to Evil Blond Man Syndrome.
I say no to smily virus, dont know who would be good though.
I like the track pairing
Ok, this isn’t a dream cast by any stretch of the imagination, but after giving it a few minutes of thought here’s what I’ve come up with:
Vikki Grimm: Emma Stone
Taryn Vexx: Camilla Belle/ Megan Fox
Sam Darkness: Amanda Seyfried
Feel free to disagree with me ’til your heart’s content. I’ll put up a cast listing for Kessler and one or two others later.
I like the Emma Stone direction. But, Emily Browning is perfect. And it’s hard to argue with the artist. Amanda Seyfried was not someone I would’ve thought of, but also makes perfect sense.
C2E2 was awesome and I definitely think it was worth having a table. I think we sold about 30 copies of the print edition, which was fantastic. Also sold some prints and a few of the new ‘Free Mars’ posters. All this stuff should all be available this week on the website, so stay tuned.
I think the best moment, anecdotally, was when I was describing the ‘Free Mars’ concept to one guy and, slowly, a group of people started gathering to listen. Once I finished my description, they all bought the compilation.
I suspect that we might’ve been more noticed if we had been in the Webcomic Pavilion as opposed to the main Artist’s Alley. I will admit that the only webcomic there I was familiar with was Battle Pug. I think next year I would consider trying to get us in the more “specialized” area. Though my neighbors in AA were very cool.
But, again, it was a great show. Mccormick Place is a great venue, though I think they need to rethink the lack of beer concessions. If they can sell it to auto show attendees, they should be able to sell to overweight Batmen.
Oh, what about Hayley Williams from Paramore for Vikki Grimm?
http://www.sugarslam.com/paramores-hayley-williams-kissed-on-stage-by-fan/
Haley Williams would be a good choice. Considering the 3 female leads are all in a band, it would be ideal to cast actual musicians.
Concerning other characters, 3 come to mind for Kessler. I’m guessing he’s in his late 30s give or take a few years, so I’m thinking (in no particular order) Scott Speedman, Aaron Eckhart, or Matt Damon. For Dub, Harold Perrineau (played ‘Link’ in the Matrix sequels) and for Colonel Lynch, on appearance alone I’d say Ed Harris, or more likely Ralph Fiennes or Mark Strong.
Miley Cyrus? God no…! i wouldn’t watch the film if she was in it and playing the lead character no less.
Late 30s? I can’t see Kessler being further along than his late 20s at the oldest. Maybe it’s just the art, and maybe it’s just me, but he looks terribly young in the second-to-last panel up there.
Of course, his being rather youthful would also dovetail rather neatly with Dave’s previous comments regarding the ties between Martian youth movements and the rebel factions, but I suppose well find out for certain sooner or later.
