PAGE THIRTY. Exterior, Martian desert (?)
Welcome to the first page of Track 3 of ‘Free Mars.’ This week is a little surreal for a few reasons. First, the page itself is kinda trippy. I think you’ll agree. Nic has done some amazing stylized versions of our girls; they almost look like children’s book versions of Vikki, Taryn, and Sam.
Second, I just realized that we’ve hit 30 pages and over 230,000 hits on the website. Pretty big milestones for a humble webcomic. I know I say this a lot, but I don’t think we’d have gotten this far without you ladies and gentlemen.
Lastly, C2E2 is just over the horizon and that means our print edition will arrive in a few weeks. I still don’t know how we managed a Dan Abnett foreword.
There is a musical pairing this week, but we’ve hid it within the page itself. It might be a little esoteric, but this scene should seem familiar to at least some of you. Let’s do this, the first person that gives me the correct song, based on this week’s page, gets a free set of mini-prints sent to them. You can post your guess here or email us at freemarscomic@gmail.com. I’ll check the time-stamps if there’s multiple correct answers. Good luck,
Dave

Yeah…I have no idea.
I immediately noticed the style was off (so to speak) when the page came up. It’s definitely a new spin on things, so I’m interested to see where you go with this.
I’m going with “Space Oddity.”
Cuz, you know – they’re in space, and it’s all a bit odd.
I imagine it is “odd” or “off” as Brian said because this is what’s oozing about inside Vikki’s concussed brainpan…
My guess is going to have to be “Sweet Dreams” by the great Annie Lennox when she was with Eurythmics
I base my guess on that only time some one has a surreal dream about them selves doing a music video is obviously when they are dreaming also the skulls in the martian sands made me think of it for some reason
I’m going to go for “Comfortably Numb” by Pink Floyd, but I’m also pretty sure I’m wrong. I’m guessing that it has something to do with the skeleton with the headphones?
Cheers
Dave
Wow, these are all pretty good guesses. Tom almost had me convinced that ‘Space Oddity’ was right.
Clearly you guys need some HELP! Here’s one more clue. If this were the original, which takes place on Old Earth, you’d be able to see a famous Druidic site.
How about HIGHWAY TO HELL – ACDC?
Lol! It’s my take on the Question..
I was actually a bit scared when I saw the “new” Sisters… As for the song, I have no idea.
“Stonehenge” by Spinal Tap?
Buggles songs! Buggles songs fit all scenes!
Is Vikki flipping us off? Or just playing a Gm7?
Tom- I thought the same thing.
Okay, since no one has gotten the reference, which I admit was tough, I will explain and even show you what we were going for. In 1965 the Beatles released their second feature film, Help! In one scene, the Beatles are recording outside, on the Salisbury Plain, surrounded by British army tanks and troops. I always thought it was a fantastic and surreal scene. I think I first saw the film in 8th grade, at my first BeatleFest, and that particular scene stuck with me.
So, I found the the clip on YouTube and sent it to Nic, along with a description of certain elements that had to appear, like the tank barrel in the first panel and the recording booth “wall.” Again, as always, he nailed it. He came up with the slightly “off” style to reflect…well, I won’t give it away just yet, but Tom guessed right.
So without further ado, the Beatles performing ‘I Need You’:

I’m going to further guess that the “Vikki Grimm…?” at the bottom is Kessler’s voice.
What I can’t guess is why there’s no new page yet…
